Eriadne 1.2.3 RC1

Dear Frieds,
We could not let you without a X-Mas present.
Thanks to Paolo Attivissimo we could test Eriadne on a SonyEricsson P1i and fix some user interface problems that made a bit hard to find some buttons (Exit, Send Path, etc).
The new version come also with some bugfix and a big enhancement in reducing the amount of bytes sent over the air when sending a path.

With the current version (1.2.2) we are getting data from different models of mobiles and consider them as certified to be able to run Eriadne and be able to communicate the position.

Eriadne 1.2.2

With this update version we fixed some menues interaction problems on SonyEricsson and enhanced server communication.

27.11.2007 - Eriadne 1.2.0 (beta)

New version of Eriadne presents some new features:

• Supporting more mobile phones: so far Eriadne was supported mainly by Nokia models, with this new version Eriadne connects directly Bluetooth GPS devices. If your phone does not give the expected results please write a comment on this post including your model and we'll find solution.
• Destination path: it's possible to set target coordinates in CH1903 (maps Swiss) or WGS84 and on the screen will display a green arrow indicating the direction of the destination (compared to the sense of march) and the remaining distance.
• GEOCaching: You can send your position with an SMS directly to another person who has Eriadne, the other person will be able to set it as the destination and reach you with ease.
• Geomagnetic compass: If your GPS device has the geomagnetic compass sensor on the screen will display the north permanently and continuously, even in the absence of the GPS signal.

Today we would like to present a big fan of Eriadne's system.

Telemobility 2007

Today we are attending the Telemobility Forum to compare Eriadne to other similar solutions, developers or bloggers. The result is pretty surprising, we didn't found equal services, but similar like vehicle GPS tracking. This make us proud to continue on this project with more resources.

Within the forum we beneficed of new ideas on how to make Eriadne evolve in a very interesting way by maintaining the original purpose.

Eriadne will become more social by letting the mobile user to share (emotionally, culturally, touristically, gartronomically, etc.) interesting places directly to other mobile users.

We had an interesting speech with Alberto D'Ottavi which gave us interesting points of view.

Eriadne 1.1.0

With the 1.1.0 edition we redesigned Eriadne internally tasks for the upcoming features and fixed some annoying bugs.

Upcoming features:
* we are hardly working on interfacing Bluetooth GPS devices for the mobiles that doesn't support the Location API JSR-179, however this will require the device to support at least Bluetooth API JSR-82.
* geocatching feature! You'll be able to send, with a simple SMS, your position to another Eriadne's user and let him reach you at that given position.

We would like to implement some other useful features and remove all annoying confirmation requests for obvious actions (like allow the application to get the GPS position, send the path, start on upcoming friend Eriadne's SMS), but it will require us to SIGN the application.
Unfortunately SIGNing an application cost money (about 1000$ per year) and this is killing for a free application model.

Joined eTourCamp

We finally joined eTourCamp for first public presentation.

Downloadable GoogleMaps

With this new feature it will be possible to download KML files viewable on Google Heart.

You may download the path in 2D mode clamped on the ground for normal excursions or 3D mode for flying sports like the example.

Eriadne 1.0.5

With new version we have:
- add: compass on screen. The compass require few meters of movement to properly work
- add: accuracy light gray radius. The gray circle shows accuracy bounds given by GPS
- fixed: distance was not reset on path reset
- fixes: email IDs was treated in case sensitive mode making difficult to retrieve maps online.

With today update and thanking Luca Silvanti we made following changes.
On Eriadne:
- switched X and Y coordinate labels
- added the possibility to reset the path for initial imprecision or privacy protection of start point
- added the possibility to tune the height offset
- functions number grows -> reorganized menus
On Web:
- added few other tested and supported mobile models

Next comming:
- to support more mobile models (mainly of SonyEricsson family) we are bypassing JSR-179 to directly read location data from Bluetooth GPS device.

New features

I'm starting this blog by posting new features since very first version of Eriadne:

• excursion resume on application start (in case the application quit or saving battery on excursions stops)
  
• added height curve
• added details on screen: latitude, longitude, vertical and horizontal precision (+/- meters), path lenght in meters, speed (if available)
• automatic Path sending every 5/15/30/60 minutes
